Gantry 5

Bulletin N°57 mai 2025  It can be said that the impossibility of denying the genocide in Gaza makes the previous position of some Zionists, in France and elsewhere, difficult. Of course, those who assume Netanyahu's cynical discourse continue to speak as before. The recent words of the Prime Minister of the Zionist entity (takeover of the Gaza Strip, deportation, concentration camps) definitively prove right all those denouncing the genocide and the eradication or deportation of the Palestinians as the goal of the Zionists. Those who assume this thing, directly, like Meyer Habib or Caroline Yadan, or indirectly, like the "journalists" who relay the false idea that the Palestinian Resistance confiscates humanitarian aid [1] , continue to support the government of the Zionist entity and to shamelessly proclaim their hatred of the Palestinians.
But another fringe of the Zionist current, as well as a part of the media , seems to be changing its discourse, this is particularly true in the United Kingdom and in France.
In the UK, the phenomenon has been occurring in the press for the past three weeks. The  Financial Times , the British establishment's financial daily, was the first to break ranks the week of May 5, denouncing " the West's shameful silence " in the face of Israel's murderous assault on the enclave. In an editorial, the  FT  accused the United States and Europe of becoming increasingly " complicit " as Israel renders Gaza " unlivable ," noting that the goal was "to drive Palestinians from their land ." The  Economist  then intervened, warning that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ministers were driven by the " dream of emptying Gaza to rebuild Jewish settlements ." On the weekend of May 10 and 11,  The Independent  decreed that the " deafening silence on Gaza " must end. It was “ time the world woke up to what is happening and demanded an end to the suffering inflicted on Palestinians trapped in the enclave .” Regarding the Zionist entity, the newspaper wrote: “ It now plans a Gaza Strip without Palestinians. What is this but genocide? When will the US and its allies act to end the horror, if not now? ” On Wednesday, May 14, BBC Radio’s PM program   decided to prioritize the testimony of Tom Fletcher, the UN humanitarian chief, before the Security Council. Presenter Evan Davis said the BBC had chosen “to do something a little unusual .” Unusual indeed: the BBC broadcast Fletcher’s speech in full, including this comment: “ For those who have been killed and those whose voices are silenced: what more evidence do you need?” Will you act decisively to prevent genocide and ensure respect for international humanitarian law ?
In France, it is mainly Zionist figures who are finally speaking out. We have already mentioned the trio of Delphine Horvilleur, Yohan Sfar, and Anne Sinclair making statements that appear to show empathy for Gaza. On the press side, we sense a new wind in the sails of the "daily newspaper of reference," Le Monde . But it waited until May 21 to publish an editorial titled "  The Israeli government must no longer benefit from the slightest impunity  ," as well as an article documenting the trivialization of genocidal discourse among the population of the Zionist entity. In the latter, our evening daily relays this sentence from a Haaretz article: "  On Israeli television, starving the babies of Gaza is not a problem. As long as there are no photos of them,  " or an excerpt from a speech by a Zionist academic during a seminar: "  If the expansion of the military campaign in Gaza works, it will be chaos." But I don't think this should scare us, because chaos will give Israel freedom of action. And not only that: a Somali version of Gaza  (…)  will encourage immigration  .
But, in our country, the main characteristic is the political "left" emerging from its lethargy. We have explained several times what we thought of LFI's position, halfway across the ford, not frankly anti-colonialist, but they did not wait 19 months to denounce the massacre. It is the rest of the "left" that is in question. The best example of this "move" is the initiative, admittedly sparse, at the Trocadéro on Monday, May 26, at the initiative of the PCF, with the main leaders of the three parties, PCF, PS, and EELV. For several days, Fabien Roussel has adopted the term genocide.
Explanations and limits of these developments
However, neither British newspapers, nor Le Monde, nor pseudo-Zionist intellectuals and the French "left" have become anti-colonialist, much less supportive of the Palestinian Resistance. Even the term "25th Hour Resistance Fighters , " often used on social media to describe people on the "left," Zionist or not, who have just "come out," does not accurately describe the reality.
Let us return to the editorial in the daily newspaper Le Monde , mentioned above. It does not speak of war crimes or crimes against humanity, but evokes a " drift " (a word repeated in the first and last paragraphs of the editorial). "Ethnic cleansing" is only at the "project" stage. The very term "genocide" is considered a distant hypothesis, with a crude pretext: it is not up to journalists to use it: "  the possibility in the long term of a qualification of genocide by international justice, the only legitimate one to do so  ", ignoring the fact that the ICJ and other bodies have already ratified it and "forgetting" the existence of a UN text characterizing it for which the Zionists tick at least four out of five criteria. On the other hand,  Le Monde  does not hesitate to describe the October 7 operation as a "terrorist attack," and asserts that " Hamas's responsibility in the ongoing catastrophe has been and remains overwhelming ," which amounts to odious Holocaust denial. One sentence remains perfectly true in this umpteenth Editorial of shame: " Netanyahu's coalition has, however, benefited until now from an indulgence and complacency that now amounts to complicity. " In France,  Le Monde , which has constantly spoken of the "Israel-Hamas War," and all its epigones, deserve a place of honor in the list of accomplices in the ongoing genocide. In fact, everything positive that can be found in this change can be summed up as follows. For 19 months, the Gaza concentration camp has been transformed into a death camp. In the face of horror, the state of Western journalism, and particularly French journalism, is so deplorable that the slightest sign of progress is worth noting.
The same can be said of left-wing politicians. In the Socialist Party, Jérôme Guedj calls himself "Zionist and pro-Palestinian," which is nonsense; as for Mayer-Rossignol, candidate for the leadership of the Socialist Party, he calls for the flags of Palestine and the Zionist entity to be raised side by side in cities. We have denounced this position of shared blame enough for months to not hesitate to say that, fundamentally, nothing has changed in these speeches. As for the PCF, the most "advanced" of the three parties, it too has not changed; it remains committed to the "two-state solution," colonial peace, and calls for "recognition of the State of Palestine by France" as its central demand, as if that were likely to change anything in the current situation.
Ultimately, what this situation reveals is the importance of the common point of view of the entire left, including the LFI. The latter's refusal to condemn Zionism as such, to support the Resistance, and its insistence on formulating the ritualistic and consensual "far-right Netanyahu" and "the crimes of Hamas" mean that everyone finds themselves on a very similar line.
As for the new converts, we are not witnessing a surge of conscience, far from it: after more than a year of complicity, political and media actors are cynically seeking an alibi to exonerate themselves, before it is too late to feign remorse. They are covering their tracks, while continuing to neither attack nor defend the Zionist entity. Thus, the trio of Horvilleur, Sfar, and Sinclair attacks Netanyahu while defending Israel. In its famous editorial of May 21, Le Monde says this: "It is necessary  to clearly state that what is happening in Gaza is necessary. But this must be accompanied by the recognition that many of Israel's allies no longer have anything in common with Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, which has chosen a path that places the Israeli authorities outside the ranks of nations that respect human rights  ." As for Roussel, he states: "  I call on our dual nationals to question their conscience." Don't participate in this massacre. Don't participate in this genocide ." without a word of criticism about the 4,000 of them who actively participated in the genocide. In an excerpt from a speech, Mélenchon makes a similar appeal to dual nationals.
The icing on the cake comes from this other excerpt from Jean-Luc Mélenchon's speech on May 27: "  The turnaround has begun, and in what way [...] And of course, many of us want to say "Ah! It's happening to you now. Well, it was about time." [...] For months, we have been fighting to achieve one result: to absolutely and completely isolate Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right, fascist government. [...] For months, Jewish community organizations have all been in unconditional support of Benjamin Netanyahu.  " Let's pause for a moment on this excerpt from a speech in which the word Zionism does not appear. The isolation of Netanyahu is exactly what the "left" Zionists are demanding, to better defend "democracy." One might have thought that the "move" of the rest of the left would have led to a similar "move" from LFI, finally deciding to denounce Zionism. Not so! On the contrary, LFI activists welcome these rallies, criticizing them for being late or expressing the idea that, from now on, these people will no longer accuse them of being anti-Semitic. There is a tightening towards the center of the "left." They finally all agree on stopping the genocide, but also on Netanyahu, the only bad guy on the far right, on respect for what they call international law and on the two-state solution (with the exception on this point of Rima Hassan and Aymeric Caron).
We cannot close this chapter without citing the proposals that, according to Mélenchon and LFI, must be those of France: Ceasefire ― Release of the "hostages" ― End of the blockade of Gaza ― Humanitarian corridors ― Trials of war crimes and criminals. Note that LFI does not demand the total withdrawal of the occupying army from the Gaza Strip, which should have been in 2nd place , since this is the prerequisite always set by the Resistance for the release of all captives and this is included in the last agreement that the Zionists violated. Another remark, when we project ourselves into the future, with the aforementioned judgment, we can also demand the return of all refugees. But, above all, who will judge and what assurance will we have, if it is the ICC, that this instrument of Western imperialism will condemn any war criminal whatsoever?
In conclusion
This objective rapprochement must have a response: the rallying of all true anti-colonialists to amplify solidarity with Palestine. For the Revolutionary Communist Party, more than ever, it is necessary to denounce Zionism and relentlessly repeat that what Netanyahu wants to do is nothing other than finish the job left unfinished by Ben-Gurion in 1948. Alongside these positions of shared wrongdoing on the part of the "left," a clear position is needed.
A clear position is total support for the Palestinian people and their resistance, in all its forms, from everyday gestures to armed struggle. It is not possible to support the struggle for a free Palestine without supporting the armed resistance, in all its components and in all its actions.
Therefore, more than ever, we need a clear, anti-colonialist, anti-Zionist discourse, denouncing the actors, the accomplices of the substitute colonization implemented in Palestine, the accomplices of the genocide of the Zionist entity which increasingly resembles that of the American West, perpetrated there also by European colonists!!! And we need more than ever the active solidarity of the peoples and workers of the whole world with the resistance of the Palestinian people, in Gaza, in the West Bank, in Jerusalem. It is high time that a large popular demonstration be organized in France to support the national liberation struggle of the Palestinian people and to cry out that enough crimes are enough, that the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people must be recognized.
Such a demonstration must demand a just peace in Palestine. A just peace means the dismantling of settlements, the return of refugees, and an independent Palestinian state. For our part, we also demand the end of the apartheid colonial state, because its existence prevents such a peace. The workers of Israel cannot be free if they do not break with Zionism and continue to find themselves objectively and actively in the camp of the colonizers, the genocidaires. We need a state where all inhabitants enjoy the same rights and can live together, regardless of their origins—in this case, a democratic Palestinian state.
The Revolutionary Communist Party supports more than ever the fundamental demands of the Palestinian national liberation movement: a complete end to Zionist military aggression, the right of return for refugees, and the formation of a Palestinian state on the territory of Mandatory Palestine.

[1] In reality, aid is completely blocked by the occupation army. And what does arrive in dribs and drabs, for the sake of Zionist propaganda, is often looted by Zionist-backed gangs, when it is not the soldiers themselves who do it.
