Bulletin No 52 novembre 2024 From the beginning of the war in Ukraine, we have analyzed its imperialist character [1] and emphasized the dangers it represented [2] for the Ukrainian and Russian peoples on the front line of this butchery, but also for all peoples and particularly in Europe, in the face of the escalation that such a conflict would not fail to provoke . In a brochure devoted to the causes of the war in Ukraine, we confirmed our analysis of the imperialist character of the war [3] .
While the Russian Federation is undeniably responsible for the outbreak of the conflict, the coalition forces in NATO, and especially the United States, bear a heavy responsibility by supporting reactionary and even fascist regimes in Ukraine that make the confrontation with capitalist Russia their raison d'être, which fundamentally corresponds to the interests of the United States. Since the outbreak of the war, Ukraine has therefore become the site of the confrontation between Western imperialism dominated by the United States and capitalist Russia, with China as a backdrop, considered a systemic enemy of the United States. The toll of this confrontation is tragic. Ukraine has lost 10 million citizens who have fled abroad to a situation that has become unbearable and dangerous, the birth rate is down, hundreds of thousands of young combatants and civilians have died or been disabled, and the destruction is immense and amounts to hundreds of billions. The situation has become so difficult that many young people are trying to avoid conscription or are deserting the front. For the Russian people the situation is not very bright either. Military losses are high and affect the poorest populations tempted by attractive military contracts, while the oligarchs and their henchmen continue to fleece the workers and the people. The economic situation, even if it is less affected by the sanctions than the NATO allies imagined, is not very encouraging with high inflation and interest rates that are close to 25% while the Ruble has lost a third of its value against the Dollar. The weight of the military industry weighs heavily on the State budget. The birth rate is down despite the efforts of the government and all the projections show a decline in the population and its aging.
The economic situation caused by the sanctions is severely penalising the economies of European countries, particularly Germany, due to the explosion in energy costs and the price differential imposed by the United States on Europe, particularly on gas, which is sold three times more expensively to Europe than it is to the United States.
Since the outbreak of the war, which began with a special operation aimed at overthrowing the Kiev regime and the failure of this operation, a classic high-intensity war has been established in Ukraine on a front of more than 1,000 kilometers [4] , while Russia purely and simply annexed four Ukrainian regions, accompanying it with referendums with more than questionable characteristics in view of the war situation prevailing in the region.
The characteristic of the development of this war is that of a permanent escalation of the protagonists in conflict, the latest of which is the one conducted under the leadership of the United States, as expressed by the KKE press office when it writes [5] : " Following the authorization given by the United States and NATO to the Zelensky regime to use NATO long-range missiles against Russia and the subsequent update by Russia of its Nuclear Doctrine according to which it " could use nuclear weapons if the country or one of its allies were subjected to an attack with non-nuclear weapons", it is obvious that the imperialist war in Ukraine between NATO and Russia is brought to another level of escalation and possible generalization with unforeseen consequences for the peoples ." Since the election of D. Trump to the presidency of the United States, and what is perceived as threats of disengagement on their part, the Pandora's box has been opened with the Russian response of using a medium-range missile that could potentially carry nuclear charges and the increasingly marked assertion of European countries to want to position troops on the ground. We will be told that these are technicians and troops to stabilize a front line (of division?) between the belligerents to protect Ukraine. In reality, all this is part of an escalation of the conflict that the NATO allied countries would like to transform into a lasting weakening of Russia, while the latter intends to maintain an advantage allowing it to strengthen its presence in Ukrainian territory.
Nothing good can come out of this escalation for the people, especially since it is accompanied by an explosion in military budgets, a militarization of society, attacks on public freedoms and, by maintaining the fear of a nuclear conflict, it calls on the people to resign themselves. However, in a diffuse manner, in Germany, Moldova and Romania, election results highlight the expression of a fed-up feeling with war. If the solution certainly does not lie in voting for populist parties, it must emerge from a resolute struggle against imperialism and for us against our own imperialist power, France, which we will recall is engaged in the Ukrainian conflict within NATO, that it practices a neo-colonial policy, particularly in the so-called Overseas Territories and that finally it supports in fact the colonial war that the Zionist entity is waging against the Palestinian people fighting for their national liberation. Our slogan is therefore clear: Down with imperialist wars, France's exit from imperialist wars, France's immediate exit from NATO.
